Tryout Information
Physical Events
1. 150 yard open water swim - heads down, freestyle ONLY
2. Tread water for 3 minutes
3. 10 yard underwater swim - participants may come up for a breath but must go back under water and continue swimming the 10 yard distance.
*Goggles and wetsuits are permitted.
Tryouts are only required for NEW participants, and participants that missed the previous year of Folsom Lake Junior Lifeguards.
The purpose of junior lifeguard tryouts is to test participants swimming skills and their comfort in an open water environment. This is not a competitive or timed tryout, but is a method for State Parks lifeguards to evaluate each participants aquatic ability. State Parks Lifeguards will be on site for aquatic safety supervision.
Note:
- While some participants are excellent pool swimmers, swimming in open water can be intimidating. Participants are encouraged to practice open water swimming for the tryout.
- If a participant is unable to pass the tryout, their tuition will be refunded in full and the seat will be opened to someone on the waitlist. We will email members of the waitlist to arrange tryouts, as needed.
- Failure to attend a tryout date will result in your child’s registration being canceled and refunded with a $50 cancellation fee
