Crystal Cove Guard Aide Program

The Crystal Cove Junior Lifeguard Program is looking for candidates to fill the role of Guard Aide for the upcoming season.

Guard Aides work under the direction of Operational Lifeguards and Junior Lifeguard Instructors. Upon completion, Guard Aides will possess the knowledge and skills necessary for becoming a California State Lifeguard. This program is designed to develop leadership and professional skills and prepare individuals to pursue employment as an Ocean Lifeguard.

Guard Aides receive training in performing aquatic rescues, CPR, first aid skills, and have the opportunity to shadow Ocean Lifeguards staffing towers.

Guard Aide Tryout (Volunteer 13+): Sunday, May 4th @ Crystal Cove Lifeguard Headquarters Building

The Guard Aid Tryout will not be canceled due to inclement weather, with exception to lightning & thunder.


Guard Aide Duties:

  • Assist with the monitoring of aquatic events and perform rescues
  • Assist Ocean Lifeguards with various program related tasks
  • Receive training in First Aid and CPR
  • Receive training in California State Parks Lifeguard Rescue protocol
  • Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become a California State Park Lifeguard

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 13 years
  • Completion of Guard Aide Test
    • Competitive 500-yard open water swim.
    • 150-yard beach run, 250-yard open water swim, 150-yard beach run.
    • Oral Interview
  • Past Junior Lifeguard Experience preferred
  • Be available for at least one 3-week session AM and/or PM
  • Attend at least one mandatory training date (9AM - 1PM)

    • Sunday, June 1
  • Acceptance into Guard Aid Program
